About Lightning Sprints in Tasmania
Lightning Sprints (formerly Mini Sprints here in Tasmania) have been part of speedway racing in Tasmania for many years, and are a very exiting class of racing.
Having originated out of what once was the GP Midget Class, the now baby brothers to the Big ‘V8 Sprintcars’ provide the opportunity to experience Open Wheel Racing at a considerably cheaper cost to that of their larger compatriots.
Cars can range from between $3000.00 to $30,000.00, giving the opportunity for the beginner or the avid pro, to mix it on the clay.
This means that we see young drivers, starting at the age of 16 years of age, up to more senior drivers, racing together, making for some seriously entertaining racing.
Lightning Sprints are consistently the second fastest cars in speedway racing, second only to the V8 Sprintcars.
Don’t let the name fool you, these cars are a very sophisticated machine, and are a very challenging to drive.
